Remembrance Week 13th -17th November 2017

This year during Remembrance Week we will remember the centenary of The Battle of Passchendaele where thousands lost their lives. The Year 2 assembly for families will take place on Thursday 16th November at 2.15 p.m. and will celebrate the life of Captain Noel Chavasse, a local hero who is the only man to have been awarded the Victoria Cross twice in the same war. He is commemorated in  Ypres, where he died during the Battle of Passchendaele, in Oxford where he trained as a doctor and in Liverpool where he lived for part of his life when his father became Bishop of Liverpool. There are a number of memorails to him in the city, including Chavasse Park in Liverpool 1, which was named after him.

We will have a Remembrance service in school, along with a focused lesson in each class during the week. Infants will find out about the poppy and why it is worn in memory of the dead, while junior children will find out about The Battle of Passchendaele.
