The Year 1 children had a wonderful day last week visiting Halton Castle and Norton Priory Museum.
In the morning we had the opportunity to have a tour of the castle ruins. We looked at the many features and talked about the people who lived there many years ago.
In the afternoon the children were able to have a go at quill writing, sword fighting, building their own motte and bailey and dressing up as knights and warrior princesses.
It was a great day and this trip helped to reinforce our half term topic about Castles.
Castles
Year 1 Trip to the Museum
Year 1 took part in a fantastic trip to The Museum of Liverpool. The trip incorporated the topic 'Toys' and the children were able to further their knowledge of old and new toys including different materials.
Everyone loved the, 'Little Liverpool' exhibition especially cleaning the River Mersey of rubbish and catching fish.
The behaviour of all children was exemplary and this was congratulated by the museum staff.
Welcome back to school and a Happy New Year to everyone. We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas.
Our topic this half term is about Toys.
We will be investigating old and new toys and the materials used now and in the past.
Details of all the areas of study are in the Year 1 topic letter. The Year 1 trip will be held at the Museum of Liverpool, details will be sent nearer the time.
Our role play area has been changed to a toy shop and the children have been busy buying and selling toys. There will be January sales and some of the toys will be reduced. The children will have to work out the new price using their adding and subtracting skills and more and less than.
Photographs of the children working in the areas will be uploaded very soon.
Destination Outer Space
This half term the children will be exploring outer space
The role play area has been trasformed into a space station. The children have been busy planning a trip to space to meet the aliens.
Over the next few weeks the children will be making their own planets and space rockets. Please bring in any plastic bottles and kitchen roll tubes to school as soon as possible.
We're Going on a Bear Hunt
The year one children had a brilliant day at Croxteth Park. The children got the chance to have a tour of Croxteth Park Manor House where they learnt about the people who used to live there. They explored the park, and collected different materials to make a group sculpture in the style of Andrew Goldsworthy. In the afternoon the children went on their very own Bear Hunt in search of the missing teddy bear, Max, who was found in a cave like forest. It was a lovely day which the children thoroughly enjoyed and luckily the weather held off.
Mad Hair Day
On Friday 11th October 2013 a sea of colourful hair designs greeted us at the doors of Yr1.
The Children and parents had outdone themselves with some amazing hairdos. We were treated to some wigs, creative plaits and coloured hair to create an all over mad hair day.
Year one’s topic for the first half term is All About Me. We have transformed our learning areas into a Doctor’s Surgery where the children can learn about the body through roleplay.
In our topic lessons we have been learning about the local area, our bodies and how we are all different.
The children have really enjoyed seeing Liverpool and the United Kingdom on an interactive map and have learnt about addresses.
