During the Autumn Term we focus on Phase 1 of the Letters and Sounds Programme. The emphasis during Phase 1 is to ensure the children are attuned to the sounds around them and ready to begin developing oral blending and segmenting skills. We incorporate phonics as part of everything we do in school, wherever we are learning, together on the carpet, completing activities indoors or exploring outside we make links to the phonics curriculum.
The children are immersed in an environment that is enhanced with activities and resources to develop their phonic ability. All adults are trained to ensure we are able to make meaningful links to phonics during our daily interactions with the children. We also teach 2 phonics sessions a day to ensure the children have a solid background before moving on to Phase 2.
When the children are ready we start teaching Phase 2 and the children will then bring home Pink Reading Books to practice their phonics skills with you.
