Happy Diwali!

We have been celebrating Diwali, the Hindu festival of light.  We compared the customs of this festival with the traditions of Bonfire Night.  We have enjoyed finding out about the traditions of this special festival and discovered that Diwali is a celebration when Indian families pray for good luck and prosperity by lighting rows of lamps called ‘diyas’.  We listened to the traditional tale of Rama and Sita and enjoyed making our own diva lamps with clay, gems and jewels.  Outside, we created traditional rangoli patterns with chalks and powder paint outside and dressing up in real saris to join in with Indian dancing to ‘Bollywood’ music wearing Indian jewellery, bells and bindis!
