Chinese New Year
2021:The Year of the Ox
We have been creating Chinese lanterns and decorating them with gold writing and glitter. We will be making lucky red envelopes to take home with chocolate coins inside to celebrate the year of the ox. We painted and decorated a large dragon mask for our dragon procession and Chinese dancing using percussion and ribbons in the hall with Mrs. Neil. We listened to Chinese stories and learnt new year greetings in Chinese, as well as learning a song about Chinese new year traditions. We heard the story of the animal race and re-enacted it in the water play. We tasted prawn crackers, sweet chilli sauce, prawn toast, vegetable spring rolls and won tan at snack time and tried to eat using chopsticks.
Our role play area has been transformed into a Chinese restaurant, with opportunity to dress as customers in traditional clothes, dress up as the chef or the serving staff.
