The children had great fun making circuits this spring term. We borrowed specialist kits from Discovery City Learning Centre on The Wirral and experimented with simple circuits. We then added buzzers and switches and investigated how this affected the circuit.
We learnt about the dangers of electricity and the variety of appliances in school that use electricity.

Valentine Treats!
Valentine treats for our families is always a big hit with the children in Year 2. Lots of organisation goes into the design, preparation and making of our tasty chocolate 'rocky roads' and truffles.
Firstly the children had a tasting session to decide which treat they wanted to make. The it was time to look at ingredients and method for the making. They weighed out the ingredients carefully and followed instructions to make their chosen treat.
Finally they chose the packaging from an assortment of colourful papers and gift boxes.
We do hope you enjoyed your gift.
Love wrapped up!
Jesus Friend to Everyone
During our topic, 'Jesus Friend to Everyone', the children explored Jesus' miracles through drama and art. It was fascinating to hear the childrens' ideas and questions they asked relating to the wonders and how they interpreted the messgaes from Bible stories read in class.
The children enjoyed acting out the miracles and created some beautiful art work for display.
Well done, Year 2. You are all extremely talented.
We welcomed Tempus Fugit Theatre Company back to Year 2 to help us re-enact the events of The Great Fire of London. We met Samuel Pepys and had great fun participating in reteling the events by role playing some of the characters involved. In addition we learned some songs and had a chance to sample some typical clothing and artefacts of the time.

Enjoying Learning in Year 2
Much of the learning in Year 2 involves practical as well as written work. The children actively engage in a range of activities from drama and role play to using concrete materials in maths lessons and paired work. The photographs below give a sample of these activities.
Visit to Cheshire Reindeer Lodge
Despite a tummy bug that threatened to derail our trip, we had a wonderful visit to Reindeer Lodge. Throughout the day the Elves introduced us to Father Christmas, gave us lots of interesting facts about reindeer, help us feed the reindeer and entertained us with a great sing-a-long after lunch. Before our departure we chose the school Christmas tree which we decorated with the baubles we made during our 'Make, Do and Mend' Book Week

Making Healthy Sandwiches
Our thanks to Mrs Peacock who demonstrated the art of sandwich making and for her handy tips on how to present sandwiches to make them more enticing. The children tested a variety of breads and tasted a selection of ingredients before deciding on their choice of sandwich. We were very impressed by the number of children who tried and choose foods that were new to them for this project.
As part of our Super-Fit Me topic this half term, we visited Frankie and Benny's restaurant in Stonebridge Retail Park to find out about how pizzas are made and the importance of hygiene in a restaurant. It was fun finding out how cocktails are made and we got to choose some flavours for our own cocktails. When we made our own pizza, we had a great variety of toppings to choose from and we wore our chef's hat and apron and a plastic glove to protect our food from germs. While we waited for our pizzas we had an activity pack to complete. Our thanks to the staff of Frankie and Benny's for giving us a wonderful experience to remember.
Visit of Tempus Fugit Theatre Company
On Friday 17th October the children were enthralled by the interactive show which focussed on Florence Nightingale's time in Scutari hospital. 'Florence' introduced the children to the difficuties she encountered at the hospital and the children actively participated in taking on the role of the nurses and soldiers. The children got a real flavour of the problems Florence faced, as well as the thinking at the time and the difficulties Florence had to overcome to improve conditions at Scutari. They were also introduced to her lasting influence on nursing and the way in which she elevated nursing to a respected profession.
A big thank you to Mr Capps-Jenner, Mrs Peacock, Nurse Hopkins and Jack Cain from Elite Sports for taking time to come into school to help the children to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The children asked lots of questions regarding diet, excersise and hygiene. It is always a pleasure to invite people from our community into school to give the children the opportunity to enhance their learning. Another enjoyable topic for all involved.
