Tous Ensemble, En Chemin Avec Jesus

Year 6

Indepedence and high expections of their own designing skills, the cjhildren created bags from scraps, just as they would do in 'Make Do and Mend' during the second world war.

Independence, Diversity and High Expectations

6D enjoyed making tortillas as part of our DT topic of 'Celebrating Culture and Seasonality'. This also links in superbly with our History topic of the Ancient Mayan Civilization - where corn made up 80% of the staple diet. Our tortillas were delicious!

We made tortillas which linked to our history topic about the Mayans

Year 6 Project:

Textiles - Combining Different Fabric Shapes

Make Do and Mend

In Year 6, we linked our DT topic of Textiles with our History topic of World War Two. During World War Two, materials were rationed and people had to 'make do and mend' items with the materials that they had at their disposal around them.

In our DT lessons, we have been researching, designing, making and evaluating our very own bag out of materials that we have around us. Our bag had to be fit for a specific purpose (e.g. to hold a book, to carry  shopping, etc.).

Before making our bag, we researched the individual components that combine together to make a bag. We also considered what size would be best to meet a specific purpose, what material would be best suited for this purpose and the type of stitch required to give it enough strength.

We really enjoyed the DT process of Research - Design - Make - Evaluate.
