Deacon Housbey's Visit

RE Theme: Gathering

Deacon Housbey came to talk to us about gathering together in church. He brought special items with him for us to look at. We passed around silver candle stick holders, the Communion cup for the wine and the tray for the bread. On the tray were pictures of grapes and wheat to remind us of the bread and wine, as well as the symbols Alpha and Omega which remind us of God. Some children dressed in the priest's clothes (an alb) and sash. We looked at the cross and the special silver bowls too for oil, water and the bread.

Deacon Housbey told us how the oil is used to make the sign of the cross on a person's head at baptism and during prayer for the sick. He showed us the silver pot with oil in which is taken to the houses of sick people for prayer. On the pot was a cross just like the one on our Nursery uniform. Theodor knew there was a cross on his uniform. Daisy and Isaac said that God's special book is called the Bible.
