Dough Gym Drumming
Dough Gym Drumming!
As a follow up to the Dads and Grandads drumming workshop, we had outdoor dough gym to chanting and drum beats. The children exercised and strengthened muscles in their fingers, wrists, hands, arms and shoulders...all essential for controlled mark making and writing, whilst having fun beating out rhythms on drums, pots, pans and on the dough too! We twisted, chopped, pulled, pushed, thumped and pinched the sparkly dough while chanting 'I like chocolate cake!' (from the drumming day). The children suggested many more chants which they invented themselves. Beating out syllables also is an essential phonic skill used when learning to read (desegmenting words).
