Tous Ensemble, En Chemin Avec Jesus

Year 3

Your teachers this year are Mrs Walsh (3W) and Mrs Cooper and Mrs Buckland (3CB)

You will also be helped by Mrs Hill, Mrs Jabakhanji, Mrs Downey, Miss Reid & Miss Lydolf.

You can follow Emmaus KS2 (juniors) on Twitter at https://twitter.com/EmmausKs2

We have started using Purple Mash as software to help us deliver the Computing curriculum. It also has lots of exciting content that we can use in our other subjects. You have all been given login details and passwords to help you access this website at home. If you need a reminder then come and speak to your class teacher. Sometimes we will set you tasks you can complete at home but there are also games you can enjoy on here. Have fun exploring!

Please practise your 4x table and the related division facts. Keep it up!

Did you know your local library has thousands of ebooks and audiobooks?

You can borrow them, instantly, for free, using just the device in your hand.

We have been showing the children how technology can be used to borrow ebooks and audiobooks on a tablet or mobile phone as an alternative way to enjoy stories. If they have a library card for any of the Liverpool libraries then they can access this for free!

Try a zoomable graphic novel, or a picture book with readalong audio.

Art Attack - How to draw a pteranodon

We've just started a new topic in our English lessons on INSTRUCTIONS. Today we followed these instructions from a TV programme called Art Attack. We were amazed by how well we all managed to draw this dinosaur. Have a go and follow them - you may surprise yourself! If you liked this then take a look on YouTube to find more episodes of Art Attack or check out Art Ninja on CBBC.

Bus Stop Method of Division

If you hear your child talking about the 'bus stop method' and are slightly confused then rest assured...it's simply the new name for short division! Approach it exactly as you have always done. Nothing has changed here! Phew!

Multiplication using the grid method

As more parents and carers ask how maths is taught in 2019 (somewhat differently from when we were at school ourselves!) here's another handy guide to one of our written methods for multiplication known as the grid method.

Partition the larger number into its tens and ones (units) and then multiply them separately. Finally add the answers together to find the finished multiplication. See the step-by-step guide above. Hope this helps!

Here is a quick guide to column subtraction which includes regrouping (formerly known as borrowing!) The actual method hasn't changed but the vocabulary that we use with children has. Stick to Hundreds, Tens and Ones again!
We are now working on addition using columns in our maths lessons. Please refer to this website (there's a video too) to explain the way that we teach this to the children. Adults, please note that we no longer use units but ones. The numbers are placed in columns which can be labelled HTO (hundreds, tens and ones) to retain the place value as we add larger numbers.

Don't Forget the Bacon by Pat Hutchins

A great reminder for our column addition regrouping!

Please ensure all items of school uniform and PE kit are clearly labelled with your child's name. This makes it easier for us to reunite pupils with any misplaced items of clothing!

The children have now been sorted into their school houses. They will stay in these houses for the remainder of their time at Emmaus and will work to earn house points, in their sporting and academic endeavours and through kind and thoughtful behaviour. These will also be the teams that they represent on sports day and in the inter-house football and cross country events that take place throughout the year. Each week the winning house will be announced in assembly - you can keep track of their scores here.
