Secondary school open days for September 2018 intake
It is important you make the right choice when choosing a secondary school for your child. To help you make your decision, schools are holding open days over the next few months. These are a great opportunity to meet staff and pupils, view facilities and find out more.

Thanks to Mrs Simm for coming along to talk to the children about the Jewish celebration, Passover. The children worked in groups to identify some of the items used during the special gathering and learned about the importance of this occasion to Jewish families.

Well done to all Year 5 children who passed the Bikeabilty Cycle proficiency training.
Year 5 filtering muddy water science experiment.
As part of our new R.E. topic, Community, we invited Mrs McNee to come to talk to the children about her volunteering role at Foodbank. The children prepared questions to ask her to find out why she chooses to give up her time to help others, how she helps out, how people in the community can support the charity and the general help the charity offers to families in need.
Next week, the Year 5 children will have the opportunity to take part in a 2 day Bikeability programme.
5C – Mondays 23rd and 30th January
5M- Tuesdays 24th and 31st January
Children are to come to school wearing a tracksuit, trainers, waterproof coat and they must bring gloves and as they will be outside most of the day. Children will be required to wear a helmet throughout the training.
Bikeability is today’s cycle training programme. It’s like cycling proficiency, but better! It’s about gaining practical skills and understanding how to cycle on today’s roads. Bikeability gives everyone the skills and confidence for all kinds of cycling.
Details and consent forms have been sent home and we thought it would be a good idea to get your bike out over the weekend to make sure it is in good working order. (brakes, gears, tyres etc).
Bikeability trained cyclists receive a badge and a certificate in recognition of the level they achieve. The certificate also includes areas for further practice noted by the instructor.
Food Bank collection - Thanks to parents of Emmaus children who very kindly donated food items and money totalling just over £350 which will help to feed families in need over the Christmas period. Well done to the girls who kick started this wonderful appeal.
Victorian Christmas at Croxteth Park
A gentle reminder that our Victorian Christmas trip to Croxteth Park will take place, Thursday 15th December. Please send permission and payment to school as soon as possible.
1/12/16 The Church Street Christmas tree lights have finally been switched on and the Snowflake Trail launched. The Christmas tree looks beautiful with paper chain decorations designed by Year 5 children and other local primary schools.

The children in Year 5 held a two minutes silence and each made a poppy to remember the nation's war dead.
Victorian Christmas
As part of our half term term topic on the Victorian era, a Year 5 Trip to Croxteth park has been arranged for, Thursday 15th December. Throughout the trip the children will experience what Christmas was like during this period and will be guided through the rooms of the hall and grounds and experience the living and working conditions of wealthy Victorians and the servants of their household.
Details of this trip will be sent home next week.
Year 5 Assembly - Don't they all look brilliant! Thanks to all family members for coming along to see the performance and for supplying a costume. All children had a great time and danced and sang fabulously. We are very proud of you all!

Streetdance with Glenn from GLS Dance
The children enjoyed a street dance workshop with Glenn from GLS Dance. They practised then performed their dance to a Funk Track.
Ministry of Chocolate School Workshop
We learnt that our chocolate bar starts its journey as a cocoa bean growing on a cocoa tree in hot and humid countries which lie near to the Equator.
The cocoa beans farmers work extremely hard to harvest the beans, pack them and weigh them ready to be shipped to chocolate factories in other continents.
They haven’t always got a fair price for their cocoa beans, that’s were the Fairtrade organisation comes in.
A special visitor from ‘The Ministry of Chocolate’ taught us that with the help of Fairtrade, the cocoa farmers are never cheated and receive a fair price for the produce that they sell.
When you eat chocolate, you are sharing a yummy gift from cocoa farmers around the world. Chocolate brings the world together!
Roald Dahl Workshop
The children enjoyed a Roald Dahl themed workshop which included story telling and drama based on the book 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.
