Meet the Year One Team

Welcome to Year 1!

Your teachers this year are Mrs Edwards (1E) and Miss Fitzgerald (1F).

Please get in touch if there is anything we can support with. Whilst our contact details are below, we would always encourage chatting with us at the beginning or the end of the day at drop off/pick up times.

Organisation of  Year 1

The children will be split into 2 registration groups 1E with Mrs Edwards and 1F with Miss Fitzgerald. Mrs Crummey and Mrs Wood are very experienced teaching assistants and will work with the two classes.

We will work as two distinct class groups but we collaborate on all aspects of planning, so all children will follow the same lessons, tasks and activities. We work together as a unit on a variety of projects throughout the year including any productions and educational visits.

All children in Year 1 receive some form of English support appropriate to their needs at some point in the year. This does not mean that your child has a specific difficulty so please do not panic. With some children we develop specific comprehension skills in preparation for Year 2, with others we work in small groups to develop confidence while, with others still, we work with phonic and reading skills. We also implement a programme to develop language and communication skills.

Parent Partnership

Please be aware that the Year 1 team are always happy to discuss your concerns or queries in regard to your child. At this moment in time  if you need to speak to us at length please make an appointment and we will contact you by phone.   We greatly value being aware of situations at home or in school which may affect your child’s day at school such as changes, worries, events or concerns. This information enables us to provide for your child’s needs more effectively.

Homework

Reading books will be sent home everyday for reinforcement they may have the same book for a few days. Please get into the habit of sending the books back each day.

You will get an exercise book sent home on Friday which will need to be returned on Wednesday in your child's book bag. Homework is marked on Wednesday and therefore any work handed in after this may not be marked. Your child will get mathematics, English and sometimes foundation subjects homework. We will send homework that you will need to stick/write into their book, please use a glue stick rather than cello tape. We will do the first week for you as an example. We would be grateful if you could put the date on the sheet. Please guide your children with the homework and don’t do it for them.

Feedback

We greatly welcome and value the comments and feedback from parents and invite you all to suggest ways in which we can gather these views effectively. If you do have any ideas, suggestions for educational visits, resources, websites, comments on any aspect of school life or any other relevant feedback, we are always happy to receive your views.

Thank you for your support,
