Dylan's Reptile Time

Dylan's Reptile Time

We had a very exciting time meeting Dylan's reptiles and other pets. We developed our observational skills, listening and understanding, communication and confidence too while we had fun learning about the creatures.

We met Smeagol the corn snake from America, who used to live in Mrs Caulfield's house. We were excited to hear that Smeagol is going to be the Dad to around 20 baby snakes when the eggs hatch. Dylan said that he would send photos for us to look at. Dylan told us about snakes smelling with their tongues and having no eyelids. Many children held Rosie the Chilean Rose tarantula. Dylan told us that she shakes her abdomen and flicks out hairs when she's scared. We were amazed that Rosie has 48 knees! Dylan's boa constrictor Stretch was very heavy! Dave the tortoise, who came from Greece, moved so slowly because of his heavy shell.

Jabba, the giant Amazon bull frog, stuck out his tongue and ate a grub. The children touched Sparky, the bearded dragon, he had scales. Dylan told us that lizards detach their tails when they are attacked so they can escape and then they grow another!

Brian the blue tongued skink comes from Australia and uses his tongue to scare off predators. He moved by pulling himself along with his front legs and he had slits for ears. He looked like a snake and a lizard too. He felt smooth and soft to touch.

We touched and held Millie the giant millipede from the Congo jungle in Africa. She had over 100 legs!
