The Chicks Began to Hatch!
After two days the live eggs began to crack and very soon five of the ten eggs had hatched! The remaining five chicks were to follow soon.
We observed the chicks hatching, made videos with the Reception children on the iPads and talked about how the chicks used their beaks to peck at the inside of the shell to break it. We could hear the chicks cheeping to one another and to the chicks still inside their eggs!
The chicks had damp feathers when they hatched and were very tired and wobbly on their legs. Many children remembered that the chicks' feather needed to dry out because the inside of their eggs were wet.
Evan remembered that the boy chicks are yellow and the girl chicks are brown.
