Emmaus Live Eggs & Chicks

Live Eggs!

Live chicken eggs arrived at Emmaus in an incubator to keep them warm. Hens lay eggs most days but only fertilised eggs develop into chicks. The eggs used for cooking are sterile eggs with no developing chick inside.

We observed the eggs and talked about the chicks growing inside, almost ready to hatch out. We learnt that the boy chicks' feathers are yellow and the girl chicks are brown.

We looked at a non fiction text and pictures of the chicks growing inside live eggs. We predicted when the chicks may hatch.

"Eggs!" Dominic exclaimed when he saw them.

We held the newly hatched chicks gently in our hands. "It went cheep!" Lilly B said. Patrick observed, "They was yellow." Harrison said, "They was black (brown) and yellow."  Essay smiled, "They are fluffy."

"It will feel snuggle, they was like a little bit brownish," Nancy explained.
