Tous Ensemble, En Chemin Avec Jesus
Many thanks to all our Reception families who really embraced our ‘Autumn Challenge’ homework activity a few weeks ago! The children were very excited to bring into school their amazing ‘journey sticks’, autumn collages and ‘stickmen’. After hunting for autumnal treasures and creating unique seasonal sculptures with their families, the children loved talking about the places they had explored and all the exciting natural resources they had found, learning lots about seasonal change and the life cycle of plants along the way!
In school, all of our learning experiences have taken an autumnal theme.
We spent lots of time outside, searching for autumn leaves, talking about the shapes, textures and colours of all the different leaves we found. We learnt about shades and tones of colours when we sorted our leaves by colour and matched them to colour shade charts.
In Maths, we counted to 10 and beyond with leaves and conkers, matching quantities to the correct numerals.
We had lots of fun strengthening our fine motor skills by joining in with a conker water challenge, picking up floating conkers with tongs and tweezers, a true test of perseverance and patience!
We also strengthened our hands and fingers by using our ‘pincers’ to push pins into pumpkins, practising the phonic sound ‘p’ along the way. Our playdough was pumpkin coloured and cinnamon flavoured too!
We created ‘transient art’ pictures with pinecones, conkers, twigs, leaves and feathers and helped Mr Capps-Jenner sweep the autumn leaves on the playground to strengthen our gross motor skills and keep our environment clean and safe.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
