LO: To write letter describing a character’s experiences.
Unit: Time Slips
Tom’s Midnight Garden by Philippa Pearce.
Task 1: Read Chapter Two (pdf document).
Task 2:
Pretend you are the main character, Tom.
Based on two chapters that you have read so far, write a letter to Peter, describing the events of your time away so far.
Rather than simply telling Peter how you feel, try to show it by the words you choose.
You could include:
- The journey to Aunt and Uncle’s house (including the stop at Ely)
- Your thoughts and feelings about being away from home.
- A description of the flat and the house it is located in
- Aunt’s good food
- Your lack of sleeping at night
- The rules of the house
- The grandfather clock striking thirteen
Remember to challenge yourself by using high-level vocabulary and a range of punctuation including brackets, dashes, colons and semi-colons.
Use a range of sentence lengths and styles – including subordinate clauses.
Use appropriate vocabulary lifted from the text.
