Our 'Adopted' Famous French People

Each Year group at Emmaus has 'adopted' a famous French person. A photograph and information about each famous French person is displayed in each classroom and their life and achievements will be studied throughout the year.

The famous French people were chosen for their amazing successes and achievements that have shaped the world that we live in today. They also link in a cross-curricular sense with other subjects and topics studied in our year groups - such as Art, Science, Geography, Literacy and History.

Year 1: Charles Perrault - creator of popular fairy tales such as Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood (link to Literacy and Reading)

Year 2: Jules Verne - author of 'Around the world in 80 days' (link to Geography).

Year 3: Jean-Francois Champollion - Egyptologist and the person who deciphered the Rosetta Stone (link to History)

Year 4: Claude Monet - painter (link to Art)

Year 5: Marie Curie - discovered radioactivity and invented portable x-ray machines for use on soldiers in WW1 (link to History - WW1 - and Science)

Year 6: Paul Cezanne - painter (link to  Art)

Our French Pupil Council members delivered a super assembly to our school pupils all about our 'adopted' famous French people. Bravo!
