Ice Balloons
Inspired by the 'Frozen' interest led theme, we explored changes in water due to freezing and melting. The children had great fun filling balloons with water, turning the taps on and off and helping to lift and carry the balloons...some children and the staff ended up being squirted with water!
We talked about how when water turns to ice and where we could put our balloons to make them freeze. The children gave a number of ideas but Dylan's suggestion of taking them to Antarctica 'where the penguins live', was by far the most imaginative!
The water balloons were bouncy and we talked about how they felt and why they were difficult to hold (a number of children decided the balloons were heavy and wet). Harry Kane described the balloons as 'slippery', what a great word Harry!
We touched the balloons when they came out of the freezer and talked about how they looked and felt, a few ice balloons were hollow inside and looked like icicles in Elsa's Ice Castle.
The children explored the melting ice in the water trough while playing with sealions, polar bears and whales.
