Diwali Festival of Light
We have been celebrating Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. We drew around our hands, cut them out and decorated them to create our own version of Mendhi hands. We chalked our own imaginative Rangoli patterns on the play area.
We made Diva lamps out of air drying clay and enjoyed tasting Indian food for our snack too! Some children ate all of their vegetable somosa, onion bhaji , poppadom, nan bread and mango chutney.
We heard the story of Prince Rama saving Princess Sita and how the Divas lit their way home. We enjoyed singing a song about Diwali and light triumphing over darkness. We watched a video of the fireworks over the Golden Temple in India too.
Next week we will continue our Festival of Lights theme by talking about our experiences of Bonfire Night, participating in dancing to Indian music and dressing up in traditional Indian clothes.
