Happy Birthday Emmaus!

Our School Dedication Day

8 May 2014

We shared in a very special service this week, our school's dedication day.  The whole school and our families gathered together to think about all the things that make our school so very special.  In EYFS, we reflected on the value of 'Friendship' and sang one of our favourite songs, 'Together' as we shared some photos of ourselves with our Nursery friends...

'Spring Awake'

at Croxteth Park

We began our new topic with a visit to Croxteth Park to find out more about the season of Spring and to observe the seasonal changes that are occurring in our local environment.  After an exciting walk through the woods, we were met by Mr Dib, the gardener, who invited us to help him to look after the Croxteth Park gardens.  His grumpy boss, Mr Grub, then joined us to warn us that Spring was still asleep and it was our job to wake her, so we set off to 'Wake Up Spring'...

We made our way through the park and found 'Spring' fast asleep!  After we woke Spring up, she invited us to help her complete her Spring tasks...waking up all the flowers, plants, bugs and animals in Croxteth Park so they could grow.  We loved joining in with singing, dancing and shouting "March, April, May" as we marched through the beautiful Croxteth Park walled garden.
We spent the morning searching for 'signs of Spring' and learnt lots along the way about the important things plants need to grow, how to take care of living things and the importance of recycling and looking after the environment.  We met a sleepy hedgehog, a very busy bee and planted potatoes!

With our tasks complete, Spring left us with some surprises to bring back to school...she sprinkled some magic dust on our heads and gave us a packet of 'mystery seeds' to plant and look after.  Then, she went back to sleep until next year...

We worked very hard and behaved beautifully.  We ended our fun filled day with a well-earned picnic around the new 'reading tree' in Croxteth Park!
